I have the exact same problem. I have a Dimensio 4300
with Gforce Video Card.

Shut down problems can be caused by numerous things. The best troubleshooter for these problems can be found at:

You don't mention which model computer you have, but on some systems in order to turn off the power you have to hold the power button down for at least 8 seconds.

I have the same problem with a 8100 only it doesn't matter how long you hold the button down or how long the computer is on
