Software will not remove

I am not sure if anyone here can help me.   Anywho here is my problem,  About 3 months ago I downloaded a virus protection software to my pc.  About a month and a half ago I had some really bad power surges.  Now I can not remove this software.  I can't even visit the web site or any software folders in my pc with out the window closing before I can read anything.  Is there anything that I can do to get this stuff off of my computer?????

ok I am sorry I didn't know that I was in the wrong place to ask a computer question.
My computer is a: System Model: Dimension 2300, System Type: X86-based PC, Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 1Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~1794 Mhz, OS Name:Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version: 5.1.2600 Service pack 2 Build 2600.  And the software is AVG.  I already tried to get that company to help and yeah that worked.

Are you removing AVG to install a new version or a new product?

Have you tried > Start > All Programs > AVG > Uninstall AVG.

Check out the procedures in the 4th post here.

yes I have tried that way, I have tried pulling up the program through my hard drive, and as soon as the folder opens it closes so fast I can't even read anything.  I have also tried taken off through Add/Remove programs.  I can't take it off my computer, and I can't put any other Virus protection on my computer untill I get this program off.  Thank you for your help.
