SoundblasterLive! Value recog problem

I have a Dimension XPS T650r with a Soundblaster Live! Value Digital card, but I can't seem to get it to work.  I purchased this computer from a second hand store, and whoever gave it to Goodwill wiped out everything and re-installed only Windows 98 operating system just to get it running.  I've tried downloading drivers from this Dell website as well as going directly to Creative Labs and downloading their driver for this card, but Windows still won't recognize it.  What else, if anything, can I do (except buy another card)?

By the way, Windows won't recognize my PCI Input Controller either.  Don't know if this is related or not, but my sound card is in one of the PCI slots.  I was having problems with my PCI modem, but I found one that I can use in my EISA slot (the only one on the motherboard) and it works great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, first off sorry I can't help. But now I'm hoping if you solved your problem you can help me. :) I'm having the exact same *very annoying* problem you are. I'm doing a friend a favor & I re-installed Win98se for him. It's a Dell Dimension T600r they got from a friend & they do not have the original CDs.. It has the Soundblaster Live Value Digital (CT4780) & also the nVidia Riva TNT2 64.

WEll I got some regular detonator drivers installed for the vid & they work somewhat, except they crash whenever DirectX or OpenGL are used, essentially rendering the card useless. And on the sound card I cannot get any drivers i've tried to recognize it, including the few I've already downloaded from the Dell FTP & Web site.

I'm thoroughly frustrated with Dell & their seeming lack of support for their older products. Not to mention their proprietary hardware/drivers. Sorry I just had to get a little frustation off my chest.

If you or anyone else can hook me up with some drivers I'd be very much appreciative. I'm not as concerned with the vid problem as with the sound card right now.

Thanks Dennis

Yep, sounds (no pun intended) like the same problem to me.  I did find a driver for the Soundblaster CT4780 (the same one I have) by going to Creative Lab's website - www.creativelabs.com - they helped me find all the info on the sound card I had by using the CT4780 number.  The driver (sblw9xup.exe) is a little over 5Mb so it took me a while to download (dial-up), even at 115200bps.  After the download I tried running it, but for some reason it didn't take (I think it's because of the PCI input controller problem I'm having).

As for the NVidia video card (you have the same one I do), mine was working when I got this computer so I don't know which driver it would be.  I would try going to their website (NVidia?) or click on the "DOWNLOAD" tab in this website (that's where I rectified my Ultra 66 ATA PCI Bus problem).  Good luck, sorry I couldn't be more help.

Hey I did get that soundblaster live working on that machine. I uh, well when i was cleaning up the machine I had put a buncha stuff in a temp dir & I found a driver there later. When I used it the card saw the driver as being "the one" -g- & so the sound works now. If you still need it I can try make arrangements to get it to you.

Sadly I'm still having a video problem whenever I try to run a screensaver or other programs that use directx &/or opengl. I actually finally found a driver on this website too that was supposedly for that exact vid card but I still have the crashes. I'm going to post in the vid forum about that one soon.

If you need that sblive driver lemme know.
Filename: W9XDRV.EXE
Size: 5.42 MB (5,690,637 bytes)
Date: 11/10/99

P.S. I just re-read your post. That PCI Input problem will also cure itself when you install the sblive driver. I'm not sure if that's the joystick port or what but I do know they are related.
