Start up error (WinXP)

On start up, after the first "Dell" dos-look-a-like screen, the system shows up a light blue background screen saying that the there is a problem with hard drive consistency and gives me option to check the disk or skip it and boot up. If left alone, after a 10 sec. count down, the system runs checkdisk utility and at ~78% completion goes to the dark blue (dos-a-like) screen stating that Windows has shut down to prevent damage to my computer. It also gives some numbers (sorry, don't have them written down yet) as well TBCSPUT.SYS error (which is a Turtle Beach file). Reinstallation of said file did nothing to help with the error.

Interestingly enough, if the checkdisk utility option is canceled, the Windows starts up and computer runs fairly smooth. The defrag program under windows, however, cannot check the C: drive and says that it is already scheduled for it. If Chdisk /f (as suggested by the message) is used from run command, it does not have any impact on the defrag program outcome.

I left a message to Dell support and got an automatic answer nowhere near describing what the problem/solution is. Does anybody have a clue what to do? HELP!!!

If you think the error is related to your TB soundcard, after the system gets up and running go into the device list and delete the sound card from the list.  Before you do this, open control panel and do an add/remove of the TB Santa Cruz software, dont reboot until the card is deleted from the device list.  Then reboot and the computer should recognize the sound card and automatically install the drivers for it.  Then reinstall the TB software and you should be ok.  If that doesn't work, try the XP repair tools and fix XP.  This will overwrite your current XP installation with a fresh copy without deleting your software, however some of your updates will also need to be reinstalled.  If this doesn't work than a reformat will be the final step.  Good luck...
