Starting Web Site help
I know this is a very vague question, but I am just in the beginners stage of this. I am trying to start up a web site for a small (very small) charitable organization I am a part of and would like to know how or where to begin?
I have looked into www.homestead.com which seems reasonable and efficient for what I am looking for. A start up site to assist with directions, phone numbers, etc. Is that a good site? Will Front Page 2000 do the trick?
Secondly, if I was to create and purchase a domain name, I would need to buy a server for people to view the site, correct?
Are my understandings accurate? Does anyone have some preliminary advice? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time.

Take a look at my Web Presence for Beginners site (link below my signature). FrontPage 2000 will work very well for what you propose to do. I would tend to be wary of "free" Web space providers. There have been numerous providers recently who (because of the decrease in dot-com fever) have terminated their free service but offered a "reasonable" upgrade. Some may continue to do business by inserting advertising on your Web pages and if that is acceptable you can take a look at them.

You can try the free 14 days which will automatically lead you to a coupon for an upgrade to Homestead Personal at $24.00 for 6 months. If you go this route I would hold off on purchasing Front Page 2000 until later. Who knows later may never come because Homestead Personal includes their downloadable free Homestead Site Builder that you run from your desktop! It is very fast in comparison to the other online setups done while at their site. The Homestead Sitebuilder has the beginner and the advanced user in mind. You will get to make unlimited websites with unlimited pages.
I am very happy with Homestead, the Homestead Site Builder and all the extra features it has in comparison to the many others. Highly recommended choice for building something you hope to keep around for a while.
Deciding whether you want someone else placing pop up ads and flashing advertising banners at your site or not is your first step. This will help narrow your many choices and determine which road you should take. Good luck.

I have to wait for the non-profit to get back to me with a name, but Front Page 2000 has already been purchased and a donation has been made to use Homestead so we avoid all of the ads.
I do not know how to begin really, but it should be fun (I hope) to learn.
I'll be back! :-)
Thanks again everyone!
