Studio XPS 435MT problem while browsing internet
I received my new Studio XPS 435MT a couple months ago and I'm very happy with it. However, there is one issue that has been happening pretty frequently. I use MSIE 7 for browsing the internet and clicking on links to get to different pages goes smoothly for awhile, and then I click on a link and it goes nowhere. My mouse curser turns into a hand instead of the arrow (like it's on a pdf file), and I can no longer click anything. The mouse no longer functions at all except that I can move it around to different areas of the screen. I end up doing a ctl-alt-delete and in task manager I close the program. This is a nuisance since I have to go back in and re-login to where I was previously to continue my work. How do I figure out what the problem is? Thanks in advance for any advice.

The system came with McAfee Security Center so I hope that it would be alerted. What would I use for checking malware?

This may sound like a silly question...
Having McAfee Security Center... do I need anything else? Doesn't McAfee block malware, spyware etc.. ? (is malware and spyware the same thing?)

First thing to do any time internet explorer is having issues is restore its settings and to do that all you have to do is open up internet explorer click on tools or if you do not see tools look for a cog wheel then in that menu choose Internet Options in this new diaglog box click on the Advanced Tab then click on Reset and then Restore Defaults after it is done restoring close out of IE7 completly and reopen to test and see if the issue has been resolved.

I'm reading the MSIE 8 reviews and I'm a bit concerned about making that step. I am making sure that the reviews I am reading are not the beta versions because those reviews were not good in most of my review searches.
I have a question regarding malware and spyware. I'm nervous about downloading applications that duplicate what I already have.
1. Does McAfee Security Center (has spyware, virus pretection) take care of spyware and malware? I think I'm confused thinking malware and spyware are the same thing, or maybe they aren't the same.
2. On my old computer I had ad-aware personal version but I'm not sure I really needed it. Is Malwarebytes and Ad-Aware Aniversary Editon a duplication example of an application that does the same thing?
I'm sorry that I'm asking so many questions but my computer is new and I want to make more informed decisions as far as downloading applications.

I use Malwarebytes, and Ad-Aware in the free versions along with McAfee Security Suite. These programs run fine in Windows XP, Vista 32 bit, and 64bit Windows, for me.
This a definition of malware http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malware
You may want to install another browser like Firefox.

Hi kkathy, They are different, you get a lot of malware through emails and spyware through cookies. I have Mcafee it pickup up my spyware, but I still get malware through my emails.

I want to thank everyone for their input. I will download both Malwarebytes and Ad-Aware AE free version and run them to see if I have incurred some malware. I will also reset my MSIE to the default settings as well. If this does not cure the issue, I will download Firefox to see if the problem occurs in Firefox too.
Robin (From Northern Ireland) Oh, by the way, I have family in Northern Ireland... County Armagh, Portadown. We have been there 3 times and LOVE it going there.
Thanks again to all for taking the time to help and advise me.
