Studio XPS 8100 Power Supply Upgrade Help
Hi, I just recently bought an ATI Radeon 7770 to replace the older model that came with the computer. I need to purchase a new power supply for the card to run properly. I was curious what sort of specifications the power supply needs to meet in order to work with my machine. I don't want to fry my computer in anyway. I have not added any new hardware to the Dell since I purchased in in 2010.
Thank you very much for any help.

Hi Nakabeast,
Studio XPS 8100 was originally shipped with 350 W power supply. To use the ATI Radeon 7770 on your computer, you would need to have 500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCIe power connector. You can check the system requirements to run ATI Radeon 7770 from the link: http://bit.ly/10HI1jV You can find the power supply matching the specifications online or from any local store.
Please reply for further clarifications.

I make liberal use of cable ties to bundle up the cables.

Thank you for all the help. I'm not used to an unmodular power supply. What's the best way to deal with the excess cables? Seeing as how the 8100 case isn't that large.

Put them in a zip-lock sandwich bag and tie wrap them together and stuff them into the secondary optical bay area.
