Mr_Superstar,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

See the following document for information on hyperthread, how to find out if you have it and how to activate it.

I'm asking for the 2.66 ghz model. I was asking because the flag "ht" is listed in /proc/cpuinfo (I'm using linux).

not all the procs in the SX260 will support hyperthreading.  anything below 2.8 for the 800MHz FSB and 3.06 for the 533 or 400MHz FSB do not support HT.  If HT is not listed in the system setup in the CPU info submenu, then most likely your proc does not support it.  you can flash to a later version to verify it's not the BIOS but even as early as A01 will support HT.

what is the proc in the system you're asking about?

so considering the chart found on this page, http://support.intel.com/support/processors/pentium4/sb/CS-007991.htm, I would expect your proc does not support HT as there is no 2.66 with a 800Mhz FSB.

The following information is for the GX260 mid-tower, but I believe they also apply to the SX260.
1. The motherboard can support hyperthreading if it is shipped after a certain date. I believe that is some time in early 2003.
2. If the motherboard can support HT, then you need a version of the BIOS that supports HT. BIOS verions a05 or later will support HT.
3. You must use a HT-enabled processor. The GX260 and GX260 only take FSB533. The only one I know for sure that will work in the GX260 and SX260 is a 3.06G CPU. There are a few Prescott FSB533 that are HT enabled but I am not sure they would work in the GX260/SX260.

I checked Intel's website. There is only one P4 with FSB 533 that has HT: the 3.06G. Here is the link:
http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/?iid=ipp_procp4f+proc_spef&
This is the only processor with HT that will work in the GX260/SX260, provided the motherboard and BIOS supports HT.
