SX270 Boot problem

Question

My SX270 comes with the slim profile CD-RW/DVD.

Very often, during boot the BIOS message says :

secondary drive 0 not found, and then I have to press F2 to continue.

If I go into BIOS setup, the secondary master drive item says "unknown device".

Now and then the DVD drive does not show up when windows is booted.

This problem comes and goes, but is very annoying.

I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest 6 2004 version A4 but
still it does not help.

Any ideas?

reseat the drive and if you have another system, try swapping it out. The drive is the same as the portables modules, so maybe someone using a portable system will lend you theirs.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I did try taking out
the drive and putting back it but it did not help.

When the drive is recognized it works fine. But often it does not,
and sometimes when I successfully boot into windows it doesn't show up.

I don't have another system to try out unfortunately

there might be a firmware update for the drive you can apply.  for Combo Drives, they're under Removable Media Storage Devices.  take a look in the file downloads

Thanks. I tried but it still does not solve the problem. Looks like I have to bring it back for repair.
