System boot error" Missing VMM32.VXD"

When my system boots up, an error message appears saying" Missing or can't find Windows/system/VMM32.vxd".
The file is in the directory windows/system, but for some reason the system can't find it during booting.
Have any Ideas.
Thanks, Jim K.

DO YOU HAVE A UMAX SCANNER INSTALLED?

My guess is that this does not happen every time you boot and that when it does you end up in safe mode. If so, I futher guess you have a UMAX Astra 1200S scanner. If that is the case, you need to go to the UMAX website and get the updated driver. It will fix the problem.

Good Luck.

Yes, if you have any type of Umax scanner, then you will have a problem with your Dell. for some odd reason, Dell doesn't like your Umax scanner. My advice is to call Umax and ask for an updated driver. This is what I did and everything worked fine. Dell support will give you a bunch of bull about it.
