System Restore does not work

I have a DIM 4400 with Windows XP and SP II. Recently, I tried using System Restore. I received an error message that my system was not restored. At some point in the past I received help from someone as to what to do to cause System Restore to work again. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Hi tnron.  If your System Restore settings have become corrupted, your best bet is to turn it off, then turn it back on to purge old restore dates and begin new ones.

Click "Start" > open "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "System Tools" > "System Restore" > On the left side of the System Restore page, click on "System Restore Settings" > Place a check mark in the "Turn Off System Restore" box (you will lose all Restore dates, but at this point, you say they are useless anyway), click yes or okay when prompted close all windows and restart your computer.

When your system has restarted, follow above directions to return to the System Restore page.  Remove the check mark from "Turn Off System Restore" box, and answer yes or okay when prompted to turn System Restore back on.  Restart system again (for good measure).  This procedure will usually refresh your System Restore settings to working order.  Set up a manual restore date at this point, if you wish.

If this does not work, hopefully another forum member will help you with the next step (I believe it is a registry settings correction).  Good luck, and let us know how you do.

hi,

  follow this instructions...

right click my computer --> properties--> system restore -->  un check the "turn of system restore on all drives" --> and select the drives given below in the system restore screen.. click on settings and change  the size or the amount of disk space to be used for each drives.. it should be reasonable.. let it be around 2gb (2048 MB).. you can have more restore points if u have dedicated more space for the system restore... try this out!!! :smileyhappy:

If you still cant get system restore working-here is an interesting article on how to reinstall.
I did it once successfully.

If you need to Restore, then try to use the Last Known Good Configuration. Get there by F12 during initial boot. If it works (did for me once when System Restore wouldn't work), then do as above to reset Restore.
