You are not doing anything wrong, but the system restore folder appears to be corrupted for some reason.

Those restore points are likely not recoverable.

You can start with a clean slate though.

Press CNTL+Pause to open the system properties window, click the system restore tab.  Check the Disable System restore Checkbox, click OK, then reboot.  (This purges the restore point folder)

Open System Properties again, then uncheck the Disable system restore box, OK, then reboot again.

Future system restore points should now work.

Thenana,

I would also suggest afterwards you jump over to the Special Interest-Virus board and use the Dell-FAQ at the top of the page to scan your system for spyware and virus problems, will not hurt.

I still will never understand why people use system restore..its one of the worst things microsoft ever put in an OS.....it can corrupt your registry and cause more problems....for me ..using Norton Ghost is great....I make toatal back ups of mu system prior to installing or changing anything......what I like is even if you cant get windows to boot...you just put in the norton ghost boot cd and follow the instructions to recover your system...there are other good back-up programs out there also...but after I format and do a clean install......system restore is the first thing I disable.........I have also made my own recovery disks using ghost....49-69 bucks..its well worth it.......

Thank you all I will consider all your comments before I jump to something Im not sure of. Ive never done this before always just restored complete system but I have so many favorites saved im not sure how to save them and not loose them. system restore seem to be the easiest way to clean out system. (think my mom added so much adware on harddrive when she was playing her bingo games that is has my computer confused :)
