System running low on memory

My Dimension is only a week old. I keep getting a blue screen saying my system is running seriously low on memory and Norton Antivirus may not be able to run properly. What's up with that?

You might have the nimbda virus: Have you updated your antivirus definitions lately? They were probably quite out of date when you recieved your computer. Read the following link and find out: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.nimda.a@mm.html

How much RAM do you have? If it's not a virus then maybe you are using programs that are memory intensive and after the programs are shutdown Windows is not returning the used RAM to available RAM. Simple enough to correct this though. Create a notepad file. If you have under 128MB of ram type, Mystring = (16000000) If you have 128MB or more type, Mystring = (80000000) Save this file as Memory.vbe Double click this file whenever you feel your system is running low on memory. I do it everytime I exit out of big programs. If you can't run this little script you will need to d/l the visual basic runtimes from Microsoft and install them.

Ralph, don't think that's it. I have Norton and I just updated and scanned the entire computer. Thanks for the idea though.
