T3500 processor upgrade help.
Hello All,
I have a Dell Precision T3500 WorkStation Xeon Quad Core W3530@2.8GHz
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A17(Dell)
Motherboard: Dell model:09KPNV rev.A00
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Ram, 320GB Hard Drive
Nvidia Quadro FX 580 PCI-E 512MB GDDR3 Video Graphics
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
I'm looking to upgrade the Xeon Quad Core W3530@2.8GHz
to a X5570 2.93 GHz, or a W3570 3.2Ghz. According to the Technical Guide either one should be compatible. But I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this upgrade, or one like it that can maybe help me before I make any stupid blunders?
Thanks in advance,
PPW3

Hi PPW3,
I'm not sure you'll see much of a performance gain but those upgrades should work. It's generally recommended to check for BIOS updates before any CPU change.

Hi Again Osprey4,
Thanks for the answer to my question, again just looking for a little more of what I can get. The W3570 has a speed of 3.20GHz in place of my W3530 2.80GHz, not much but a little more. Every little bit, etc.
I could go to a W 5590 or W3580 but the price puts them out of reach, twice the W3570!
Thanks again, and I already have the most current bios A17(Dell),

Did you end up trying anything more? I am thinking of a 6-core, but I already have a W3580 in my machine...
I have the same motherboard as you do. :) The 09KPNV.
