George_Greg,

Nothing in your Temp directory is necessary. Of the files you listed, they are DIRectory, JourNaL (probably, I couldn't find this one), and LOG, respectively. I would be concerned about the .MTX files, as they might indicate the presence of the MTX virus, a particularly nasty creature. I would strongly recommend a virus scan of your system with updated virus signatures.

Greetings,
As Denny mentioned in a reply to this question, I might also be concerned about the .MTX files in your TEMP folder. They may or may not have a relationship to a nasty virus called W95.MTX
You can find out about this virus at the Symantec (Norton) web site here
This link describes the entire W95.MTX virus and a removal tool.
It does show on this link that all .MTX files are not virus related as you can see by the below portion of the article.

“The mere presence of files that begin with the letters "mtx" or have the .mtx extension is not an indication of infection. For example, the files mtxdm.dll, mtxoci.dll, twain*.mtx, and twunk*.mtx are all legitimate Windows program files”.

Hope this may be of some more help to you.
Good Luck
