temporary freezing on startup

I recently purchased a Dell 4300s - P4 1.6, 256 RAM, 20 GB HDD.

The computer in running Win XP Pro (upgraded from XP Home).

It has been running without any problems for several weeks.

Now, on occasion, the computer will startup with you problems, but when I go to do a task - ie, start menu - connections (for dial-up), the computer will "freeze" not totally - I am able to control/alt/del and find that under processes, 100% of the CPU activity is being used by DellMMkb.exe.

If I end that process - the computer eventually return to "normal" in about 1 minute.

Any suggestions????

Thanks

porcaro'

DellMMkb.exe this is for your programmable keys on your keyboard.Netropa, who makes the software for Dell, has a new driver listed on their web site go here;

http://www.netropa.com/download/mmkbd/download.html

I uninstalled my Dell Touch because I never used it, and I have not used the new drivers. But other posts in this Forum and the XP software Forum say it works.

Good Luck,

No Marvin I didn't download the new drivers only because I am not having any problems as described above. Better safe than sorry. Barb.

Hi haaba01,
Did you try the new drivers for the Dell Touch ? I diabled my Dell Touch to lower my CPU from 100% to 2%. But I did not install the new drivers. Do you have to uninstall old drivers from the Device Manager besides just installing the software program?

Thanks ,
