That... processor ... holder... thingy...
So... after being linked to the tech documents of my Dell, I found myself enthralled for about an hour reading up on all things 8300. Once the hour had passed, I decided I needed something shiny and/or normal mapped, so I played Half-Life 2 for a while.
Anyways, I managed to absorb that my computer can support up to a 3.4 GHz processor, so... just to check, I opened a new browser window and went to
www.newegg.com and sought the fabled 3.4 GHz processor. There it was.... $279. Easily worth an extra $400 MHz. Muwahahahaaa!!!
Then I saw the red bold font of death. Available on mainboards only with Socket "T."
I hope that's what socket my lil' guy has... but... if not.... I'll just mosey on over to TigerDirect.
I had
www.newegg.com already open in one window, and I was looking at RAM. Boy they love their RAM. Sure do, those new eggs. Anyways, I couldn't help but notice the whole dual-channel bit. I know what dual channel is, but I don't know if I need a special connector for it, or if I need dual channel compatible DIMM's or whatever.
Do I need compatible DIMM's for dual-channel? If so, does the 8300 have such DIMM's?
Much thanks.

It didn't say anything in the manual about that (Dual Channel), but it did say buy Memory in Pairs.
Interesting that it said fill banks 1/2 or 3/4, not 1/3 and 2/4.
I know the 875 Chipset supports Dual Channel DDR though, I figured that Dell might have disabled this feature sense they didn't mention it in the Service manual.
