tranfering files

I have a dell xps 420 and I would like to transfer files from my hard drive to my external hard drive

I have windows Vista, I have done it with windows xp but I am lost  when it comes to vista, I would be most grateful for your help

Yoy could also, right click the file, or folder and select 'Send To' and select the destination.

Simply copy them using Windows Explorer (use the Computer icon, navigate to what you want, copy from the original and paste to the external).

Robert-

If you have had a "Safely Remove Hardware" fail to complete on this drive this can happen although it was much more likely to occur in XP. A restart should clear this but I do not know if a shutdown is required. I will bet that Bev knows.

Thank you, I know with windows xp you could put the drives side by side and them drag them over but

with Vista I could not do that, I will give that a shot

 I tried that but when i hit send it listed everything else but g drive ,that is the externel

drive I wanted to send it to , I checked to make sure it was on I guess I will have to think of another way

I believe that my free upgrade copy of Windows 7, is at the local post office, waiting for me to pickup, so I'll be joining you soon. LOL   :emotion-2: 

Yep, the 'Send To' menu, is really handy and seems to be one of the underutilized tools windows has.    :emotion-5:
