UD: MyDVD 5 Deluxe upgrade, no analog VCR input now
Update to my message:
I got word back from Sonic Solutions about this and almost unbelievably their MyDVD 5 Deluxe upgrade (from DELL's installed LE version) lacks analog video capture. Only capable of digital. That is... until they release a version 5.2.1, or something other than 5.0.0 anyway, "soon"; which is when the Emuzed capture card recognition will be incorporated into the program. I am running that card with an updated driver called "Atlantis" when it installs, posted about in the Dimension Video Forum FAQ on capture cards; I'm not sure what the original driver name was.
So, hey... if any of you are wondering about this topic, I just wanted to give a heads-up about it.
One of those 'If I had only known before...' things.
I went to the Sonic web site to upgrade the MyDVD 5 LE program which came with the Dimension 4600's DVD+RW drive. I needed the ability to create Chapter Points. Well, it broke the Dell Movie Studio Video device. I had to reinstall the emuzed driver for it. An uninstall and reinstall of the new MyDVD 5 Deluxe doesn't fix the lack of analog (VCR tape) input previewing in the program. However, I can get it to work in Roxio's VideoWave if I use the suggested fix in that program (a setting called VCR Input, checkbox being unchecked/rechecked, told about in the FAQ atop this forum). Maybe I should uninstall VideoWave?? I'm just hating to go through all this trouble for what I thought was a simple way to improve the software after finding out I needed more features.
So... I'm without DVD creation (the way I want it) until this problem is solved. Nothing I've tried seems likely to fix it since it seems to be a driver or programming issue. Everything was going fine before the upgrade, minus the ability to do Chapters in the Limited Edition.
I want to warn people about this, especially since you can order the same computer with MyDVD Deluxe for a mere $30 or $40 extra. I paid $55 for Sonic's upgrade, downloaded online (no CD). It at least seemed to be related to Dell there at the web page since a Dell logo appeared. Then I discovered, too late, that they also discount 10% more if you register at their support forum. Could have gotten it for about $50, but still more than what Dell's cost. And besides that, it would have probably worked okay, being all put together at the factory! Well, much more likely anyway.
