Hello Don,

I would request you to run the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics to check the functionality of the hardware components installed in the system. Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action.

Awaiting your response!

Hello Don,

Please help me understand if you get any blue screen. If yes, please share the stop error code.

Hello Don,

Apologies for the delay in response. Due to the DCF Downtime I was unable to reply.

Please help me understand if the system is overheating when you are using your computer. I would also like to know if the system is shutting down only when you are copying files or even while browsing or playing games.

Hello Don,

Please try the stpes mentioned in the article on Dell Laptop is overheating or is having a heat issue and check if that helps (The article is based on a laptop, however the steps are similar).

Please write back with your findings.

Hello Don,

I apologies if I have made things confusing. Please try the following steps:

  1. Draining the residual power.
Shut down the computer, disconnect all the external devices along with the keyboard, mouse, monitor and power cable. Press and hold the power button for 10 to 12 seconds and connect just the keyboard, mouse, monitor and the power cable and check if the computer is still overheating.
  2. Try cleaning the dust from the air vents and the CPU with a can of compressed air. Sometimes after enough dirt and dust build up the fan will get clogged and cause overheating of the computer.

Please write back with your findings.

Hi Allan,

It seems that it doesn't help much. I wonder whether all the Dell desktops have the overheat issue?

Don

Hi Allan,

Any possibility that the issue is due to the power supply is not powerful/stable enough? How much Watt of the power supply?

Don

Hello Don,

I would request you to update the BIOS to the latest version.
**NOTE: Few things to ensure before updating the Bios is, no other external peripherals should be connected to the computer. Please ensure that the Bios update should not be interrupted else it would damage the motherboard.

Inspiron 660s was shipped with a 220W PSU. I would like to know if you have made any changes on the computer.

Please write back with the details.
