Unit does not load fully.

Running Dimension D233/Win98se. On about two of three start-ups the system will not load all the programs and I get message "Exp. Caused page fault in module Kernel 32.DLL @ 0167:bff 7a3dl" I have reformated 3 times stopped the start of every program one at a time all to no avail. The only clue I have is a clicking sound when the hard drive starts up. Can a hard drive as it dies cause the problem? I would like to know what is causing this problem before I buy a new computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, it could be a failing drive. Locate the Dell drivers and utilities CD and boot the system from it. Test the hard drive.

If you do not have the CD, most drive makers have their own test utility that's freely downloadable from the drive maker's website.
