Unknown Device PCI Input

I reformated the hard drive on my new Dell Dimension 4600 so I could partition it. After installing windows XP home, In the device manager a yellow question mark appears with PCI Input Device under other devices, can't find drivers. I have tried to locate then on my Dell resource CD but can't seem to find them. I e-mailed Dell Support and he sent me to a microsoft web page but that did'nt help. Now he has sent me here. Anyboby have problems with a PCI input Device and trying to find drivers????

First. What device is installed in your system that isn't working?

You need to have some idea what card is in the PCI slot that you haven't
installed the drivers for.

Usually, when this happens it means that the drivers from WinXp
didn't understand what the device is.

For example my memory stick reader shows up that way after a reload.
because WinXp doesn't know what type of device it is. It does know that
there is something there that needs drivers.

Thats just it, I don't know. The computer is exactly how I got it from Dell. I did e-mail Dell and they could'nt give me an answer. On the Microsoft web page explained a little bit of how to Identify the PCI but I could'nt figue it out looking at the code.

Did you install the chipset drivers for your motherboard?  Did you remove all USB devices, except mouse and keyboard, during the installation? Do you have a scanner attached to your computer?  If so, did you disconnect it during the reinstallation of Windows?

What PCI cards did you order??

Generally, the standard ones can be MODEM, SOUND CARD, Network Card

Modem, Soundcard, and nic card all installed without a problem?? Everything else is intergraded. I e-mail Dell with the PCI code from the system information program. They tell me to try to get this resolved though this forum. The code I receive as a problem device is:

PCI Input Device PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_7004&SUBSYS_10031102&REV_00\4&1C660DD6&0&11F0 The drivers for this device are not installed.

I'm lost!!

If you haven't already been here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=298837

This was written for Win98 and ME but it might help you find the device. After you get all the info needed, there is a link to find the vendor.

Added edit:

From the redirected site below, using your details info:

http://www.pcidatabase.com/

Vendor ID    Vendor Name
0x1102       Creative Labs

Device ID    Chip Description   Vendor ID     Vendor Name
0x7004      CPU to PCI Bridge    0x1022     Advanced Micro Devices

If someone is familiar with XP, perhaps they will fill in the blanks.

I too ran into this problem re-installing Windows XP on a Dimension 4550 for a friend. Going by the post from Chuket, this is a Creative Labs device. I verified there was a separate (not integrated into the motherboard) sound card, found the Sound Blaster Live CD that shipped with the system, and ran the install from it. Problem solved! The drivers are also available from Creative Labs website.

Thanks for the reply.

Without feedback from from people like you we would not have any idea if the solutions worked.

I had a Dimension 4600 and I had the network card, modem and sound cards already installed.  But I was still getting the yellow question mark as pci input device.  Mine turned out to be the sound card and used dell drivers.  Originally I had used microsoft's driver from their website.  Hope this helps someone.

Hi baja180,

I am now having the same problem you had before with PCI device. My hard disk was in bad log. So, I replace another one. After install windowxp home, I tried to download drivers from Dell Technical support website. Unfortunately, I could not find out PCI Device, PCI modem and Video Controller. There are still yellow question marks appearing  under other device.

Could you please help me in this problem.

Thank in advance.
