Unknown File Causing Problems

My computer is a Dell Dimension XPS D266, Pentium II chip with 256 MB RAM (I recently added to the original total of 64MB) and running under Windows Millenium Edition. Recently, I attempted to run ScanDisk on my computer's hard drive. When it was about halfway complete, I received this message:
"ScanDisk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some programs may enable ScanDisk to finish sooner. Do you want to continue receiving this message?"
- Yes - No - Cancel
I exited all running programs except for Explorer and SysTray, attempted to run ScanDisk again, but met with the same results. I had no idea what program was being run, so I went to the MSConfig file and looked at what my startup options were. Everything was normal except this one file that I never heard of before: "SCam32.exe" It's an application with the Internet Explorer icon on it. So, I unhid the system files and attempted to delete this program (which it said was created and modified on November 4, 2001) but I met with this error message:
"Cannot delete SCam32.exe: The specified file is being used by Windows."
I have a gut feeling that this program might be a virus, but I'm not sure how to check that fact. What I would like to know is if this is a virus and if it is, how do I delete it? Also, if this is in fact not a virus, what can I do to allow my ScanDisk to function properly again? Thank you for your time.

That is definitely a virus. How often do you update your antivirus?

My McAfee Virus Scan has also showed signs of being inoperable. I ordered Norton Anti Virus earlier this week. Is there anything I can do to remedy this problem before I receive the software? Thanks.
