Unsupported Memory Detected

I just recieved my two ram chips I ordered from dell. I'm bring my 512k up to 1024k. I removed the two crimm chipsand installed the two rdram chips. When I booted up I get the following error message.

"Unsupported Memory Detected in rimm3, rimm4" Please replace with rdram pc800 -40ns or faster.

I double checked and it is 256k pc800 -45ns. It should work perfect. Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks, Tom

No, 40ns is faster than 45ns. Its the access time, obviously the longer it takes it to access data the "slower" it is.

Thanks for the quick response. I didn't realize that -45ns was faster than -40ns. Well I guess Dell is going to pay for shipping to get it back. That is rediculious that their own website is wrong. Thanks again.

Aha, you bought the wrong type of Ram. You need Rambus Pc-800 40ns or faster (lower the rating, the faster it operates). You bought Rambus Pc-800 45ns. You bought the wrong type of ram, you need the faster version. And its MegaBytes (MB), not K. Hope you can return it for the proper ram.

45ns memory is SLOWER than 40ns memory and will not work in the 8200.  Dell's configurator for the 8200 has not worked properly for over six months and Dell has not fixed it.  You need 40ns memory.

Return the memory and buy the proper memory.  I've gone to Googlegear.com and selected Samsung memory for specific Dell systems and provided the links. Googlegear has great prices. Remember to buy two matching sticks. If you don't want to buy them from Googlegear, you can use the part numbers to find them elsewhere. To find the proper RDRAM for your computer, click here.
