Update video driver

Just received xps 8000 with i7 with Dell monitor.  AMD has a later driver on its website but it's not on Dell website. Can I just download it from AMD? I've heard that some oem modify the drivers for their systems. Thank you.

They will sometimes modify the bios on the card but generally do not modify the video card's driver.  What video card did you get with your system?  You should be fine with getting an updated driver directly from ATI's web site.  Dell will usually not have the most recent video card drivers on their site.  Video card drivers are updated frequently (usually monthly) to support new games and new video cards and Dell will not keep up-to-date with these as it is not needed for the proper functioning of the card that you have.  I will usually look at what changes were made from the previous driver version to determine if it's an update I want to make before going through the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling it.  Nvidia has had some issues lately with their drivers and some versions will work well on some systems and others will not so I tend to hold off if I start reading about problems with certain driver versions before updating.

I've had numerous OEM systems, some with onboard video and some with AGP or PCI-Express graphics, and not once have I ever had issues with going straight to AMD's or nVidia's web site to get drivers. I can't say that I ran benchmark tests to determine if the OEM drivers are any better or worse.

Try it ,if you have an issue you can always boot into safe mode and roll the driver back.:emotion-1:

Ok, thank you both for your quick replies. Good advice. I'll check what changes were made before downloading. I got a 4350 with it.
