updating G33M02 BIOS from foxconn site???????????????!!!!!!!!!

Hi!

Im having this stupid idea of updating my dell foxconn mobo (G33M02) with a bios update from the foxconn site.

I have the bios version 1.0.18 from the dell site already. so is it possible?

would it add OCing features to the board? or will it brick it? I want to get a nwe mobo, but that i need to get a new case, and reinstall Win7 32.

(rear i/o panle cant be removed)

In most cases (all that I've seen posted on this forum) you can't do what you want as the Dell BIOS is a proprietary BIOS.  If a BIOS update is attempted from a non-Dell source either the BIOS will not install (most cases) or if it does install it usually will corrupt the BIOS.  On a Dell motherboard if the BIOS is corrupted, the ONLY option is to replace the motherboard.

My Dimension E510 uses a Dell branded motherboard made by Foxconn for Dell but it's not the same as a Retail Foxconn motherboard.  The same way with my Retail Intel motherboard, it is made by Foxconn for Intel but only Intel BIOS and drivers will work.

Also, keep in mind that if you did successfully install a non-Dell BIOS that would invalidate your Dell supplied Operating System disc as a Dell OS disc will only install on a system with a Dell BIOS.

I recall hearing about one person successfully flashing their Foxconn motherboard with a Foxconn bios, but he had to replace that PLL chip or whatever on his motherboard to do it.

If you want to overclock, you could try using SetFSB to increase the clock speed, and then use SysTool to adjust the voltages. I was able to do that successfully with a Celeron D on my Dell.

The problem with flashing with a BIOS from a different board is that each BIOS is programmed for a specific motherboard.  The flash might actually work, but you may end up with features that no longer work or you could corrupt your BIOS completely.
