redbluemikey,

You can install the new memory in either slot. You will not lose any programs/data in the process. All that information is stored on your hard drive. If you need them, instructions for installing the memory are here.

redbluemikey,

Yes, you will have 384MB. Systems that use RDRAM (Dimension 8100, 8200) must install memory in pairs. SDRAM does not impose that restriction.

What about the 384MB result in the questiions, will I achieve that result? If not, should I buy another 256MB for the second slot? Some people say one thing, some say another. Hope I'm not confusing the situation. Like I said I'm a green horn with my first computer just 3 months now. Thanks for your help, believe me what you gave me is helpful....

Yes, I totally agree about this forum! Thank you Dell!  It takes a confident and sincere company to make a forum like this available! I would like to see a real time chat also made available. Thank you!

My 256MB Stick arrived from Dell a little after noon on 5/5/04. I was in and out of the box in 20 minutes. With all the help and tutorials you gave me Denny, it was a simple task. I now have a 384MB and this thing is flying now. I ordered the stick on 4/30/04 and recieved it in only 6 days. Dell on line store says 3-5 weeks shipping. Now they need to upgrade that, I think, to one week shipping. Maybe they need the cover, I don't know? Anyway Denny Thanks for everything. Your the man.  redbluemikey
