Upgrading CPU
Hi there,
I have a Dimension 9200 with a C2D D600 1.86 processor. I have bought a E6700 to upgrade and the task is not too difficult.
Would I need to upgrade any drivers? If there is a new processor installed, will the computer start if it does not have new drivers? Or does my OS (XP Pro) detect the new hardware and install drivers itself?
Thanks
Rex

You do not need to install any drivers. Just remove and install the new processor. Make sure you clean the thermal compound off the heatsink though and reapply new compound correctly for the E6700.

Prior to installing the processor, check that you have BIOS version, 2.5.1, or higher installed, when new CPU support was added.
