Upgrading Dimension 9100

I have a Dimension 9100 still running good for my needs; upgraded to 2 GB memory and 500 HDD. I am planning to add memory to 4 GB. Are there any other upgrades that can bring it to more advanced status? I am not going to get the latest software, and I am not planning to spend more than $150 on it. It is running XP professional 32 and ubuntu 64. Once XP is out; I will stick with Ubuntu. I am not a gamer, but I watch movies occasionally on it. I just want it to last longer because it is my last desktop and my work horse.

there is not much you can do this really old system as far as upgrades ... memory like you already said you were going to add will help a bit ... your $150 would be better spent saving for a new computer.

At most, I'd only increase the RAM.

You can install a Crucial M500 120 GB Solid State Drive to use as a boot drive:

This will significantly improve the performance of the system. Moreover if you get a newer Desktop later on, you can always transfer the drive.

Note you may have some issues installing the obsolete Windows XP on a SSD.
