Upgrading my Cpu
Could anyone tell me if it is possible to upgrade a Dimension E520 With a E6300 Cpu with a E6600 cpu - I have read that it is but Dell say that it isn't - also it doesn't seem possible to change the motherboards cpu clock as far as I can tell without removing the covering over the heatsink - can anyone confirm that it is possible and give me details if they did it successfully!

I am pretty sure you can upgrade to the Q6600. I am trying to upgrade to this CPU also. My question is since I have the Pentium D Pressler 925 (3.0 GHZ, 800MHZ), is it worth upgrading to the core 2 duo? Advantages? Disadvantages (with the exception of the $190 price tag for the core 2)?
Thx in advance.

My opinion on C2D vs. PD is go for the C2D. They absolutely blow away the PD.
I have a 9100 with PD 830, 9200 with C2D E6600 and 9200 with C2Q with Q6600. The E6600 has the performance of the PD clocked at 5GHz (or roughly twice that of the C2D). The E6600 also burns much less power. It is a great processor. Q6600 is also very nice. I was surprised that it didn't burn more power than it does.
I have found that these processors lose about 10% in performance as you load each processor, so the dual core is roughly 1.8x (2x.9) the performance of single core and quad core is 2.8x (4x.7) single core. So, you don't get 4x single core performance or 2x dual core. Hence, I would choose it only if you really need more than two cores. I routinely run 4 CPU intensive apps at once and it runs smoothly.
