upgrading my CPU
I am currently running a Dell Dimension C521 with a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ at 62W. Using the stock fan that came with the pc i would like to know if it would be wise to upgrade to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 65W and there not be that much more noise coming from my machine and the temperature being at a decent level. AS there is no room in my machine and no fan mounts to mount the fansink that comes with the new cpu i would have to use the original one so basically want to know if this origianl fan will be powerful enought to keep this processor at a good temp.
Thanks

There is actually two models of the Athlon 64 X2 5200+. One is a 2.6Ghz Windsor, which is hard to find, and the other is a 2.7Ghz Brisbane. The Windsor would work in your system without any problems. The Brisbane is another question. It should work, but the problem is it might not be recognized by the BIOS. It was released after the latest BIOS update for your computer. My quess is the one you are referring to is a Brisbane since that's what is on the market these days. You can try it, but be sure there is a good return policy just in case it doesn't work. You will not have any issues with heat so yes you can use the original heatsink/fan with either of these processors.
