upgrading processor
i wanted to upgrade my processor on my dell C521. right now i'm running a 1.8ghz which really doesn't suit my needs. preferably, i'd like to upgrade to:
AMD Phenom 9600B 2.3GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor - OEM
but i'm not sure what my motherboard supports, or if i would need to upgrade my powersupply or what. anyone know where i would get started on this?

No, that's not possible. You can upgrade to a faster Athlon X2, but not to a Phenom.

yeah i did some asking around and i found out what type of socket i have "AM2(940)" and found that those types of processors are the only ones that i can upgrade too; i have already successfully removed my heatsink and processor(as well as readded them) to my current computer.
so my final question is, can i install any processor as long as it uses an "AM2" socket?i was told that this processor which also has an "AM2" socket would work on my computer, but i'd like to use this one

Although the 6400+ is known to work in the 521 series, I wouldn't recommend it because you have the slim version. The 6400+ is 125W processor and generates a great deal of heat and with your slim case heat isn't what you want. Instead I would recommend one of the following:
Both of these processors will work with your current heatsink and not generate the heat like the 6400+ does.

thanks for the feed back, i appreciate it. i actually didn't even want to get an 85watt processor because i didn't know if it would get too hot for my PC, so i ended up getting
this one seeing as it's the same wattage as my current processor. only today did i realize that i posted this in the wrong forum(should have posted it in upgrade hardware) but i should be fine now.
thanks for the input
