The ports of PCI USB 2.0 card are the only connectors to have USB 2.0, all the USB connectors attached to the motherboard, including the front panel connectors remain USB 1.1.

That is the problem,,,,, I plug in USB 2 device to the USB 2 PCI card,,,,, it is not recognized,,, when I plug the USB 2 device into the original USB m-board ports, it works, but says device will run faster if plugged  into USB 2 ports,,,, so  that is why I asked if the motherboard itself is too old to identify USB 2  even if using a USB 2 PCI card ?

Which BIOS version is installed?

BIOS version A08 has a USB update, to fix various USB issues.

Other than the above, I would suggest that you contact the card's manufacturer's Technical Support about the issue.

Can you possibly try another open pci slot? Sometimes there are conflicts with the addresses.

Not all USB 2.0 cards are created equal.

Windows 98SE, 2000, XP require Drivers and Service packs to support USB 2.0

Only Cards that use the NEC USB 2 chipset will be recognized by XP and

may require you to insert the XP install CD for the I386 and Drivers directory or go on the internet

to down load the drivers from windows update etc.

One such card is from IO GEAR

Manufacturer Part# : GIC251U | Dell Part# : A0454665

I have tried different cards and different slotts,,,, looked for USB 2 drivers,,,,, but maybe I overlooked the Windows driver update or something,,,, yes these are not big dollar PCI cards,, and the Dell is gettin' old ,,,, but it appears with the info I am getting here,,,, 'any' USB 2 PCI  'could' work with a little coaxing,,,,Thanks for all the info, folks,,,,

USB2

REQUIRES

NEC Chipset PCI card.

Windows 98SE, 2000, XP with service packs.

Windows 2000 requires Service pack4,  Windows XP requires Service pack2  or 3

The card I suggested is $20.

The cards I tried were advertised to be USB2,, not sure what chipset,,  but are for WinXP,,,  said no drivers required, for XP,, I have XP with SP3

So if the card is advertised  as a USB 2 for XP,,,,,, that is why I was wondering if it was the old motherboard pci slot :emotion-56: that did not like/recognize or want to co-exist with the USB 2  PCI card
