USB CF Card Reader recommendation

I just purchased a Nikon Coolpix 995 and it uses Compact Flash media. We also purchased a SanDisk ImageMate card reader, and have had too many problems to keep it. Crashes while running, problems even getting Windows to start. I *did* get the Easy CD Creator patch from Adaptec and that made things work a little better. But my husband isn't gonna deal with quirky accessories, so it's back to the drawing board.

Can anyone recommend a ***stable*** USB Compact Flash card reader for my system (XPS T600, Win98SE). While price is always a consideration, stability and dependability are most important.

Also, our camera came with a 16-meg Lexar card that is "USB enabled." We purchased a 128-meg SanDisk card that doesn't say this. I've read that Lexar has a card reader but it only works with USB-enabled cards.

Thanks in advance,

If you have a bay open I suggest you pick up a PCMCIA Card reader and the SmartReader card that mates to it. Total expense about $50 and it worked flawlessly on W98SE in my home grown PC. If you don't look into the FastData (I think) Floppy Adapter that allows the SmartMedia to be read from the Floppy Drive as I had good luck with that as well. I am using an eUSB SmartMedia Adapter which I tested in W98SE prior to purchasing my Dell and it too worked without a hitch. If you are using a hub I'd make one final suggestion and that is if you have a free USB Port remove the adapter physically and from the USB settings in the Control Panel and reboot the PC without it. Once you have rebooted install it in the open USB Port and you might find your troubles are gone. Best of luck.

Hello-I use a Sandisk card reader with my Nikon. Works great. The Nikon software is not that good. I use Ulead Photo Explorer 7.0. You can probably get the Photo Explorer 6.0 for free off Ulead's website.

If you have Windows XP and you use a Nikon or Canon digital camera, you should check out this information:
