USB Keyboard with DOS?

EDIT:sorry i have checked "keep at the top" and it was not was i want to do. How I can disable that?

Hello,

I have a big problem(yeah really)
It started first when I used an old Knoppix Live CD and the keyboard never get recognized. I thought it was because it was an old distribution that doesn't support modern stuff.
But I have the same problem with caldera dos. I use Nero to burn a boot DVD using caldera dos(it is for booting on the image of the DSR partition that i have backup on the DVD, on a dimension 9200 (with PE-Type OS)).
But whereas the F12 selection and the boot selection works, as soon as in caldera dos the "USB check" is made, the USB keyboard doesn't work anymore(I was typping on the Caps Lock each 0.5 sec until it stops when the search of USB port started).

I try every USB port I have. Unsucessfully. And of course, no PS2 port :(

Is there any way to boot on a DVD with a USB Keyboard support?(I have the original keyboard)
Thanks.

It sounds like the bios has a USB driver that works okay but knoppix and Caldera are trying to install and use a different driver.  I don't know Caldera DOS well enough, but is there a way to keep it from doing the USB check, thereby leaving it to use the bios driver?  Perhaps there's a device driver in config.sys that you can comment out?

There's probably a way you can single-step through config.sys during bootup, so if you can identify a likely suspect in config.sys, try single-stepping and skip that line when config.sys gets to it.  If they keyboard continues to work after the system boots up with that line skipped, take that line out completely and reburn the boot CD/DVD.

Thanks for the reply.
I think that indeed both caldera and knoppix are trying to use their own driver.
I dont understand what do you mean by "single step"(well i'm french and my level in english is limited sometime).Nevermind, I will try to locate the config.sys and look for line that are suspects(usb). The matter is that Nero(who made the bootable dvd) only give me a ".ima" of the dos image and I cant open it.

So I will try to use a USB key boot with a MS-DOS. The (other, I got only matter :s) matter is that I want to keep my MBR safe. And the easisest way for creating a USB Bootable drive that I found is to use Winimage. But i dont know if it affect the MBR of the Main HD.
I thought also to use the dsrfix iso for saving MBR, but I got only DVD and no CD and Nero doesn't want to burn ISO of CD onto DVD.
That's a beautiful day!

But I think I have made a step forward: My new goal is to boot from a MS-Dos DVD/USB Key to avoid the loading of other drivers. ;)

EDIT: Finally I run Winimage and used the .ima of the dsrfix iso for the boot sequenced ant... it fails. So I renounced to use a usb Key to boot, I will go to the supermarket and buy a CDRW.And i will try freedos(hopping that it doesn't have usb drivers) .

I dont even now if it will work at the end(I wish to run from DOS the "ntdetect" file of the DSR partition but i'm not sure it will boot on WinPE)

I overlooked your comment that you're using Nero's DOS boot image.  I took a look at the image in my copy of Nero.  It contains a dconfig.sys file that looks to me like it pauses and asks if you want to load a USB driver:
Please make your choise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Enable maximum memory
2. Load USB/FW ODD driver
3. Load all drivers
Press 1 - 3
Is your boot CD not showing that when it boots?
"I dont even now if it will work at the end(I wish to run from DOS the "ntdetect" file of the DSR partition but i'm not sure it will boot on WinPE)"
No, it won't.  If you're trying to boot into WinPE, take a look at Bart's boot disks.
Indeed, I forgot to tell that I use Nero Express 6 to burn the DOS bootable CD.
But it never ask me how I want to boot.
And thanks for the link to bart boot diss, it will probably help me much.
So, it's a little bit off topic, but its linked.
I have succesfully run BartPE(dont yet try to restore from bartPE) but I have another problem:
I boot on your(assuming I have correctly read and that you are the webmaster of goodells) ISO of dsrfix and it start to boot on Freedos. Then... reboot.
I hit F5 to see what happends and DOS found my raid array but cant identify it, then identify my usb key and tell me to type command.com /d /p /e:256(or something like that). Then every DOS command I type is declined("bad command or no command installed")....
Another question totally off topic(sorry to use your time), I have search everywhere to find the answer(but probably not at the right place ;) ), but no answer:
When I run manually the restore process, it show me only a disk, no partition at all.
But in reality I have 4(logical?) partition:
1)Dell utility
2)WInXP
3)Ghost10 backups & other data
4)DSR Parttion
If I run from a DVD the restore process(Image of the DSR partition), would it erase all those partion because they are part of the same disk, or would it "cleverly" only erase the Win Partiton and restore the image on it(i doubt)
Thank you
If DOS can't read your RAID disk , then you won't see the partitions, either.
I don't know why FreeDOS isn't seeing your RAID disk.  Send me an email (addr on my website) and I'll suggest a few things to try.
No, it's a partition restore, not a whole disk restore.  The other partitions are left untouched.
