Using an External Hard Drive

Is it possible to use an external hard drive in the same way a local "C" drive?  For instance, I would like to move all of my music and pictures from the "C" drive to the external drive including the associated programs that I use to play the music and organize and edit photos.

I have already backed up the "C" drive, but I want to use the external drive for things other than just storage.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, the external is treated just like an additional drive, regardless of where it is located.  Presuming you have a USB 2.0 computer and drive the speeds are quite fast, but you may want to copy a few music files and a player over to the external and be sure they play correctly.  I don't see why they wouldn't.

Thanks!!  I'll try your suggestion.  I have, however, tried to move some "program" files, but they haven't transferred successfully.  I guess it's trial and error and I may have to see if I can re-download some programs from the original source.

You can't move programs, they have to be installed. Only data can be easily transferred.
