Using system restore

I have a Dell 3000 with XP Home.  I would like to restore my system back to when it arrived from the factory.  When I tried doing so by going to start/system tools/restore the calender would only let me restore it from June 1 2006.  Can't I restore it like from when I first bought it or am I not doing something right.  I downloaded a bunch of stuff at college and upgraded my ram so I wanted to have a clean machine again.  Any info would be great. Thanks

Most likely you can go back. You were trying to use Windows restore. Your machine (likely) has PC restore. When booting, press control-F11 to restore the machine back to factory state.

See the procedures halfway down this page under PC Restore.

Back up all your personal files to CD first, and be prepared to download and install all the XP updates and hotfixes again after doing PC Restore (Ctrl-F11). Make sure your antiviral software and firewall on functional before going on line to get all the updates. Sure hope you have broadband access, because it's going to take quite a while to download all those updates.
