Give us some additional information. IE: What video are you trying to play, games or movies ?. What video card do you have now ? How much main memory do you have on the system ? Does this happen during normal computer use ?
I am experiencing flutter while watching video in Media center. Video source is an rg6 cable from cable co. connected to the dial tuner card that came with computer. configured for cable ready.
I have 4G ram
Nvidia 7950 dual 1G cards quad sli.
problem is intermittant, not constant, but continues sporadically without ever going away.
Try playing the video in Windows Media Player and open up the tasklist and watch the process resources while you do this. See if you notice anything unusual.
Whoops! Interesting development -- if I open task manager during stutter, stutter stops. Don't know what that means, but as task mgr uses display it seems to be create a change that stops stutter.
Stutter is still there but just comes and goes randomly. Nothing unusual in task manager or resources.
I intend to update to vista in a few weeks and will hope it makes a difference, or if it doesn't I will probably contact Dell for help. So far I have not done that because I cannot make stutter occur at will and assume there will not be anything for them to analyse.
Below procedure will provide a faster boot up, and eliminate wasting memory on programs that are not in use at this time and may help in gaming as well.
Start Up Programs: Click on
START, Click on Run, than put in the box
MSCONFIG Click
OK. Now you are in the System Configuration Utility Program. Click on
START UP you see on the top of this Utility Program. Uncheck the programs from here that you do not want to start at boot up, leaving the anti virus, and any third party firewall alone. You can always go back into this program to restart them. They will not be uninstalled. Click on
APPLY, than it will ask you if you wish to reboot the system. Do so. After it boots up again, you will be presented with another window from the System Configuration Utility Program telling you that you have made an adjustment. If you don't want to see this pop up each time you boot up, put a check mark in the little box in the lower left corner of this announcement.
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php Link to a site that can explain what you have starting up, if you do not already know, and which ones you can safely un-check. It’s a long list. Or you can Google Search for what is showing in the Msconfig program, and see what it is...
