Virtualization in BIOS

Question

How does one turn on full virtualization in the BIOS on an optiplex 740 AMD 64 X 2. Amd's website says this processor has full virtualization capabilities, however the Dell BIOS does not seem to support this.This is the main reason I bought the Dell AMD combination. Hopefully someone can help me with this. Thanks John I was advised to post to this board from a member of the BIOS board

What is the processor model and search for AMD-V in BIOS   Only the 'Orleans' and 'Lima' AMD64 X2 processors have virtualization

The model is amd 64 x2 5000+ socket AM2 According to the AMD website this is a virtualization processor somenone will have to tellme how to search the BIOS

This is what I know about Dell, Intel, Virtualization technology............

If you have a VT (Virtualization Technology) capable processor, the VT switch will show up in Setup under the Performance section. If the processor is not VT capable, the VT option in the bios is hidden.

I must assume the Dell bios and nVidia GeForce 6150 LE chipset work similarly.

when executing the following
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep svm

flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow pni cx16 lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy ts fid vid ttp tm stc

it clearly shows the svm flag for both cores which is the hardware virtualization flag for AMD processors so the processor clearly supports it
The chipset has no connection to on die virtualization since it is on the core, however the bios can disable it which gets back to my original question

just to close out this thread

I just rediscovered it today

Slackware 12.1 and KVM make full use of hardware virtualization on this system

no matter what the BIOS says

it runs a virtual WinXP at native speed

along with every other VM i have tried
