w2k setup error (setupdd.sys)

Question

I'm trying to install W2K on my brand new (11/17/2001) Dell Dimension 8200 which came preinstalled with Windows XP home. It is crashing at the point where setup switches from text to GUI (where a bare W2K first starts to run) and is referencing setupdd.sys. What devices on my machine may cause this? The W2K media is running from a DVD-Rom device, could that be it? How can I install W2K?

update. I deactivated my DVD and ran W2k setup again. Same blue screen error referencing setupdd.sys

Since you are trying to install an earlier operating system, the install program may not be able to handle it. If you can't get past this point, I'd call Microsoft and ask for help.

Try starting up with a win 98 floppy in, and running fdisk. Then when you have gotten rid of the partitions, try to install win 2k.
