windows loading trouble

when loading win 98 i get the following message:

Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows applicationn.

The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists.

If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using it's uninstall or setup program.

If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

If you can't run any programs when entering windows do to this file then its a needed file so you can try restoring your registry if there is a backup dated before the problem started. Just restart your computer in DOS prompt and you'll be in c:\windows. Just type in (cd command) and hit enter so you be in the command directory. type in scanreg /restore hit enter and you will see some dates. Choose one hit enter and it will tell you if its a good registry. It might work.
