Windows Protection Error

Everytime I shut down my computer, I get the following message in a blue screen with white letters: "Windows Protection Error. Please restart your computer." After doing so, I can THEN shut down my computer properly.

Why is this happening????

Thanks.

You may want to try eliminating programs starting up in the background that could be causing problems. Go to START | RUN, and in the Open box type "MSCONFIG" and click OK. Click the Startup tab, and remove the checks to nonessential programs, or programs that you do not use normally. Click OK, and restart when prompted. You can continue removing items (except for ScanRegistry, LoadPowerProfile, and SystemTray) until the problem clears up.

If that does not help the problem at all, you should also consider removing any hardware attached to the parallel and/or USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports and removing the drivers for those devices. Also, if there have been any additional expansion cards installed into the system, remove those cards and drivers if the situation has not improved. Hopefully, these steps will point towards a particular piece of hardware or software that could be causing the issue.
