Windows Safe Mode?
I heard a computer guru on the radio say that it's a good idea to run ScanDisk and Defrag periodically to make your machine run faster. He suggests doing it in Safe Mode. When I try to reboot holding the CTRL key, all I get is the big Dell logo and no Windows Start-up Menu. Same thing when I hold F8 key. Am I doing something wrong? I'm running Windows 98 2nd Edition on a Dimension XPS T450, about 2 yrs old.

You did nothing wrong. Safe Mode is recommended only as a last resort if for some reason a computer fails to complete either Scandisk or Defrag after closing down running programs.
Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java.
