Windows shutdown and.....
I just tried to search for Windows98shutdown" in the messages and got this: Microsoft OLE DB PROVIDER for ODBC drivers error 80040e14 Microsoft ODBC SQL Server Driver SQL server There is insufficient memory to run this query. messages/search_board asp. line 139 I have a 2mo. old dimension 500. When I shutdown the Windows screen hangs and I have to unplug. Already downloaded patch and unchecked all those programs with assistance of tech help. What's up?

Hi,
On your search attempt, the search engine appears to be down this morning. It's been reported to the Forum Administrator, so I expect it will be back as soon as he can arrange it.
On your shutdown problems, since you have tried the obvious with no luck, I found these two links to possible solutions at the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Hopefully one of them will help you out:

Unfortunately, you've attempted all the easy fixes, if the antivirus scan isn't the problem for you, but hopefully Microsoft's troubleshooting routine will isolate the cause.
