I think it would help.

The files should be in \windows or \windows\system32. You can rename them using Windows Explorer, or just drag them onto the desktop.

You've been hit by a virus, worm or trojan - it may or may not be possible to clean it up, but you'll need to start in Safe Mode with up to date virus protection, and do a deep scan. If too many files are infected, start over (that is, format, reinstall, PATCH FULLY AND INSTALL ANTIVIRUS AND FIREWALL SOFTWARE, and restore your data).

Have you been using AIM recently. There's a virus going around through AIM that makes the Task Manager act like that. It also does that to the regedit and the msconfig features. I had this virus and I just figured out how to do it a little while ago after hours of trying and help from some other people. It's not a serious problem, but it can get annoying.

Well not aim, but Gaim.

The virus came thorugh MSN, when i opened the file. I contacted the person i got it from. She said she got it. Her software caught it, but not before it spread to her MSN list. I was on it. =\

Search your computer for a file named WINDOWSUSB. Also use a program like HijackThis and post your log on the Security and Virus Support forum. The experts there will help you find out what's wrong. You can also try what I did through HijackThis. Go to the place where you can see all your processes, (this can also be done through Ad-aware and some other antispyware programs) and kill any suspicious processes, one at a time. If killing one of them fixes the problem, then search your computer for the name of that process. For me, it was a process called WINDOWSUSB.exe. I would recommend creating a system repair point before you do that, just in case your computer messes up after deleting the files. HijackThis can be found at:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

For information about how to post a HijackThis log, look in the FAQ for the Security and Virus Support forum.

Thanks for the help guys. I think i fixed it. I booted into safe mode and ran my McAffee there. It picked up 2 infected files, they were Trojans. It deleted them. Now my task Manager comes up. and everything seems to be normal.

If anything else goes wrong now i know where to come!:smileywink:

I don't know if your HijackThis log was run before or after you removed the trojans and I am not a HijackThis expert, but the O1 -Hosts listings in the log indicate that all antivirus programs that try to do updates or if you try to go the web sites for the software will be redirected to an IP address of 64.233.167.104.  I am not about to go to that web site to see what it is, but it looks very suspiceous to me.  I would recommed that you run HijackThis again and post the log to the Virus/Spyware Information and Removal forum where a HijackThis expert can look at it and make sure you got rid of all the bad stuff.
