JZack: I'm a little confused. Your windows TEMP file (folder) 'C:\Windows\Temp' and your memory are two completely different things. One usually doesn't relate to the other. What version of Windows are you running?
P.S. I found an article in the
MS Knowledge Base about 'Error-13 but I'm not sure it applies. You can take a look and see.
Thanks for your response. I'm running Windows 98 2E. The response I get when I try to run a setup program is: "Could not create destination file C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\setup.bmp. Error number: 13
The file is an .exe I'm double clicking on the icon. It's a PAC BELL update to my netscape browser so I'm not sure about the .bmp part.
I've had problems with my TEMP file before while trying to install a 32-bit quicktime file from my Adobe Photoshop CD. It said my TEMP file did not have enough memory available. I can't imaging why since my system is a new XPT-500 , 128, 20GB
Sorry to keep adding to this, I'm not completely awake yet this morning.
One last thing. Check and make sure the attribute on your Temp folder isn't set to 'read only'. Right click on your C:\Windows\Temp folder, click properties, and if any of the boxes in the 'Attributes' area are checked, uncheck them and try again.
One more thing. If you've got the documentation that came with the program you're trying to load look and see if 'Error-13' and 'Extract Failed. Return=8' are explained somewhere.
JZack: Hummm! Are you sure the application you're trying to load is a windows compatible 32bit application or could it be a DOS or Windows3.1 based application?
What is the file extention? It is a .exe, .zip or something else. Are you trying to load it using Start > Setting > Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, running it from Start > Run or just double clicking on it?
P.S. Startup.bmp is a 'picture' (a bit map image), is there another startup icon or whatever with a .exe extension?
Yeah, that's a lot. I'd delete it, or move it to the Recycle Bin for a couple of days. After a couple of day, if everything is working then delete it from the bin. After you get all this stuff out of your Temp folder then try the install again. Beyond that your problem really has me stumped....... Sorry
