X800 Pro Problems...
I read a few of the earlier forum posts concerning AGP card upgrades in a Dimension 8200. I see that people have managed to get a X800 Pro working in a 8200 without problems, but I tried installing mine yesterday and encountered one instantly.
Just before the system starts loading the OS (WinXP startup screen), the whole monitor goes blank. I'm just wondering if this is where the PC/AGP-card goes into a "shutdown procedure" if the AGP-card does not receive enough power? (I just hope the AGP-card doesn't malfunction because of this... ) I'm thinking that the problem is power related, because the BIOS loading screen appears and I can get into the system BIOS without difficulty.
I got it to work once earlier (this was after I unplugged some of the hardware), but I encountered an error in Windows after a small while. After that, it went back to showing a blank screen at WinXP startup. When I reinstall the GeForce Ti4600, the system boots normally again.
I'm thinking it's the power, and not a fault with the card or BIOS A09. I have to be sure that I've tried everything before I consider returning it to the store.
It's a Sapphire X800 Pro VIVO card, and I'm running a Dimension 8200 with some extras added since time of purchase (bought in Europe, but there shouldn't be a difference). The only things I've installed myself are a Belkin 10/100Mps network card and a Firewire interface.
Would appreciate any help,
Chris

Did you uninstall the nvidia drivers first?

Yes, and removed the remains after uninstall (I always do). The OS should load even if the display drivers are wrong (XP uses default VGA settings when it detects video errors).
I've ordered a new PSU from PC Power & Cooling, so I'll post again after I've tried it. (Now the "long" wait for FedEx to ship it here
)

Ah! I encountered another person having the same problem with the X800 in a 8200. I replied in his thread, and after trying out a few things, we came to a conclusion:

Good luck! ;)

Did you ever manage to solve this?
I've just bought a Peak X800 Pro graphics card for my Dimension 8250 -and have the same symptoms as you reported. The machine runs through its BIOS sequence OK, but then freezes as if it can't find the hard disk. I can see the hard disk identified correctly in the BIOS, but the machine won't boot and it also freezes if I try and run the IDE diagnostics from the Boot Menu.
I've tried unplugging the second hard disk etc - to see if it was a power supply problem, but it made no difference. I also flashed the BIOS to version A04 - which also failed to fix it.
Running out of ideas now, all I can think of is the interrupt settings in the BIOS - would you mind letting me know what BIOS settings you are using.
Thanks in advance.
