XPS 410 processor equivalence - need help
My son's 7-month old XPS 410 is exhibiting a strong, acrid odor coming from the power supply. The Dell replacement system has arrived, apparently identical except for processor:
Old: XPS 410, 820 (2.8GHZ), DCT, VIIV
New: XPS 410, CDCR, E6700 (2.66GHZ), DCT, 4MB, V
How do these two processors compare (other than the clock-speed difference)? Is the new system a fair exchange for the old?

A (true) Porsche story: my other son was a Porsche mechanic for 5 years. One day they got the kind of call that all mechanics dread: "I changed my own oil and plugs, and now the car doesn't seem to run right. Can you check it out?" Reluctantly they told the owner to bring the car in (turned out to be a front-engined model - don't recall which). So my son and the other mechanics are working on cars in the multi-bay shop when they hear the sound of an approaching vehicle. As they are busy, they don't turn around - but the vehicle sounds get closer; they can hear the gravel being displaced by the tires. All of a sudden there is a loud bang - everybody is startled, and the entire shop crew turns around to see the newly-arrived vehicle. It has a strange pointy-bulge in the hood.
The savant-owner had cross-threaded 3 of the spark-plugs in the engine, one of which was blown out of the head up into the hood just as the car approached the shop bays. The attempt to save pocket change wound up costing the would-be mechanic some serious bucks.
Then (again, true) there was the Porsche owner who took his car to Jiffy-Lube!!! His model had a cast-aluminum oil-pan. The oil-change-droid over-torqued the drain-plug, causing the pan to shatter (a known consequence). Jiffy-Lube had to buy a new pan: $1100 plus installation.
