xps 420 processor question
I've been lookin for a good deal on a processor. I found a q9650 for a great price. I have an E6850 in the system already. I've got a lot of info from people on the forum about processor upgrades on the 420. but the info I've gotten says Q9550 or QX9650 processor are the top I can put in. I dont see why I cant put in a q9650 in the system. Any help would be great, thanks.

Hello altec9,
I have two XPS 420's, both running the Q6600 processor, which is like your E6850 in that they are built on a 65 nm (thickness) form, the size that fits into the CPU processor sink and is held in place by the bracket.
The Q9550 and the Q9650 are built on the 45 nm thinckness form, which means it is significantly thinnner than your current dual core. So I am not sure that they will work on your XPS 420.
