XPS 710

Hi.

I currently have a Dimension 9150. Over the past few months, the noise from it has become much louder. Because dell have failed to fix the problem, they have offered a refund.

I am thinking of buying a Dell XPS 710.

Does anybody have any view on this system. It is mighty expensive and i was not too sure if it is a loud system or a quiet.

Any views welcome!

Since the XPS710 is a XPS700 with some motherboard changes, it will be dead quiet as my XPS700 is super quiet (and that's with dual 7900GTX video cards).

True the 2 words I would use for my XPS 700 are dead quiet. If it didnt have the leds I would not know its running by noise level.

My XPS700 was Dead quiet, then the power supply started buzzing, I was sent a new one and it is real loud, they sent a second one and it is just as loud. So I don't know what to do.

Can somebody tell me what the fans are like on this system?

I have loads of problems with dell fans as they are useless!

Ive heard that they get faster when it gets hotter.
Does this happen a lot.

I would like this system if it is quiet.

Andy I beleive Dell uses very high grae fans so yours is the exception and since they are moving parts they can and will fail but since yours happened in waranty they are getting it right with you.
That being said, all the Dell Core 2 Duo systems are extremely quiet! Your 9150 will probably be louder (when it was new) but it also might be close depending on the video cards you get. I was surprised how quiet the 9150 was but the PWS 390 (like a XPS 410) is so quiet you really don't know they are on. I think the XPS 700 is a bit louder but still they are quiet.

I have to admit that i am starting to like this system now.

Can anybody tell me what iis like when you play games on it. I know that the graphics card gets louder when playing games, but do the other fans get louder?

If you area talking about the XPS 710 then like most systems it does get a little bit louder but to put that in perspective, my XPS 600 with SLI 7800 GTX and P4 EE 965 was much louder at idle than the 710 with SLI 8800 GTX (I added them myself).
I am very impressed with the quiet factor of this system!

So does the Processor fan speed up when playing games?

With my 9150, when i play games, only the Graphics fan speeds up and nothing else.

I'd say so, I have not noticed anything but the video cards spinning up but if the CPU or other fans do I can't tell.

I dont often play games a great deal but i do like to watch DVDs on the computer. As my 9150 is really loud and noticable, it find it very annoying.

If i had the XPS 710 and i watch a DVD, will the fans get louder? I really cannot decide weather to go for an XPS 710 or a Dimension 9200. I am really liking the XPS. I dont mind the fans getting louder when they get hot, but not too loud.

I used to have the Dimension 8400 and when i played games or when it is really hot, the fans got louder and it was REALLY loud as it sounded like a vac. Is the XPS this loud when it gets hot?

The 9200 and XPS 710 will be about the same when playing DVD's and other non stressful 3D stuff.
The 710 only gets louder because of the load on the video cards during game play.
The cpu fan never spins up faster even under heavy load.
The 710 is really only for if you want SLI or Crossfire graphics, if you only want or need one graphics card the 410/9200 is better.
